Board Meeting Highlights

The Oregon Area Historical Society wants our members and friends in the community to know what the Board of Directors are up to. Here are the highlights of our recent meetings.

We discussed the 2025 budget which will be voted on during the Annual Members Meeting on March 23 from 1-2pm at the Oregon Area Senior Center. 

There will be 1 opening on the board. Need volunteers for the nominating committee.

Slides are the 1992 tornado were donated. 

Looking for volunteers to help with the Wax Museum fittings.

Welcome to 2025!

The Board discussed the 2025 budget that will start in April 2025 after the March Membership Meeting.

The Newsletter will be changing to an e-Newsletter and will be distributed by email as a PDF attachment.

Dixie, Museum Coordinator provided a sign up for Saturday Museum Hours. 

The board spent time planning the Annual Membership Meeting and 2025 events.

The next meeting will be February 10, 2025.

October was a busy month! The Museum has glass slides that will be restored and featured in a future display. We had 79 visitors to the Museum (not including Trick-or-Treaters!) and 207 volunteer hours reported.

The Board discussed how to handle Memorial Donations.

The Quilt Raffle made $941! Bob Block made the motion to donate $200 of the proceeds to the Fire Station. The remaining $741 will go to the Society’s operating budget.

Board member Bob Block gave a talk to the Oregon Area Senior Center on Veteran’s Day about WWII POW Camps in Wisconsin. Watch the recording on YouTube.

The Board discussed how to handle the newsletter to members in the future. We would like to do an email newsletter to save on mailing costs.

The Museum will be closed from December 8 (after Christmas at the Museum on December 7) until Saturday, January 4 when the museum opens in the new year. No December meeting.

President Heather Young and Museum Coordinator Dixie Brown lead Introduction to Genealogy class at the Oregon Public Library. The recording is available on YouTube.

Three second grade classes are scheduled to visit the library and the Board discussed Halloween preparations and other upcoming events.

A graduate student, Matt Ripley, is working on a project to increase collaboration between Dane County Historical Societies and is gathering information with Stoughton, DeForest, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Livsreise, and OAHS. He presented his project and will report back on his findings.

The Board discussed membership prices and decided to not increase renewal prices for 2025. The Board also discussed how to facilitate making membership payments online.
