OAHS Board Highlights ~ August 2022
From Dixie Brown, Museum Coordinator:
Dixie and JoAnn will complete their inspection of the Rural School Signs with a recommendation as to which signs may need to be replaced. The vintage toy display has been updated with several items received from Karen Kruel. JoAnn and Dawn are working on expanding the horse display with additional information about area horse establishments. Dixie announced that there will be a general clean up/organizing at the museum the week of September 12th and a yard sale/bake sale on October 1st. Volunteer hours for the month of July was 260 hours.
From Luke Heiar, Treasurer:
Reports that the tax exempt number for the Society expired in July, 2022. He has applied for a new number. He has also annualized the budget over a 15-month period to reflect the change to our fiscal year ending from December 31st to March 31st.
Mary Norwell and Dawn Grinnell reported on the National Night Out event held on August 2nd.
Deanna Fischer gave a report on the Scavenger Hunt held on July 31st. Both events were successful in giving the Historical Society greater visibility in the community.
By-laws: Articles II and III were provisionally approved and Articles VI and VII were reviewed, discussed and changes proposed.
Phil Peterson asked if the Historical Society would be interested in partnering in the Red Brick Reunion group to possibly supporting an all-school reunion as an OAHS event. The Tuesday Crew will discuss further.
Discussion Topics:
- Placement of the “MUSEUM OPEN” sign that would give us better visibility to promote more visitors to the museum.
- Brainstorm possible new name for Oregon Summerfest – giving it a historical significance to the event.
