June and July 2023

  • We have received a donation to replace a couple of the rural school signs that have faded; the new ones should be installed this summer.
  • Large plaques with the roster of the Civil War dead from each town in Dane County are in the process of being restored; eventually they will be displayed at the Alliant Energy Center.
  • We are sponsoring a “Travel Oregon” passport project for adults and children.  Get the passport at the Museum; get 15 local business stickers and get a coupon to local the Firefly, Pizza Pit or Lil Buddy’s hot dog stand.  Thanks to Chad Wachtl for getting this project organized.
  • The Ice Cream Social at the Community Band Concert was the most successful ever – raising about $850.  Many thanks to all the pie bakers.
  • Volunteers are preparing articles of historical people and places in Oregon to be printed in the Oregon Observer in addition to our regular timeline of events 100,50, 25 and ten years ago.
  • High school student Ayden Schaalma logged over 40 hours of volunteer service at the Museum, photographing over 275 framed pictures, and scanning original newsletters.  Riley Roth is our newest volunteer and in continuing the scanning project.  Wyatt Parsons has joined the high school volunteers and contributes his energies wherever they are needed.
  • Kermit Traska is spearheading a project to replace the flowerbed on Lincoln Street; the current one is deteriorating.
