OAHS Board Highlights

May 2023

Joel Olsen, president

  • The first board meetings of Fiscal 2023 have been relatively uneventful compared to last year when each meeting was dominated by discussion of the amendments to our Bylaws.  The amended Bylaws were approved at the March 19th Annual Meeting.

  • New Board member Kara Ripley was welcomed. Kara, JoAnn Swenson and Deanna Fischer were elected to full three year terms at the recent Annual Meeting.

  • In April 2023, the Board appointed for another year: Dixie Brown as Museum Coordinator, Heather Young as Publicity Coordinator and Website Maintenance, and JoAnn Swenson as Newsletter Editor.  Within the Board itself, we appointed an Executive Committee (Olsen, Fisher and Ripley) and a Nomination Committee headed by JoAnn Swenson and consisting of two Society members yet to be appointed.

  • The need for new signage on the Market Street side of our Museum was noted.  Joel met with artist Rhonda Cory who will develop some designs and present them to the Board for consideration.

  • The Oregon Observer has asked us to contribute articles on historical topics, on a monthly basis, in addition to the Timeline which we already submit.  Board members and volunteers have signed up to author the articles.

  • Kara Ripley asked, on behalf of the Library, if we would again work up a program of four 15-minute presentations like we have done the past few years.  The event will likely be on a Thursday evening in October at the Senior Center.

  • There was discussion on how we might work with Phil Peterson to assist with the Red Brick School Reunion.  We agreed to give it a try and discussions are underway.  The Reunion picnic is set for August 5.

  • Staff and Board are busy planning the annual Ice Cream Social on June 20th in conjunction with the Community Band concern.  May it NOT rain this year!
