A. Roscoe Loveland was the postmaster for the Village of Oregon from July 1, 1897 to at least 1906.
He was born on August 20, 1864 in Rutland Township to Carpus E. and Emily L. (Colvin) Loveland. Emily and Carpus were born in New York.
Carpus E. Loveland was a farmer for a time, and then clerked for a number of years. He was a member of the legislature of Wisconsin, in 1870, was a member of the county board of supervisors for a number of years, and also officiated for a time as justice of the peace. He retired and lived in the Village of Oregon.
A. R. Loveland received his education in the excellent schools of Rutland township. He never married and lived with his parents. He was a member of the Masonic order, holding membership in the lodge at Oregon. In politics, A.R. was a Republican aside from being the postmaster, he never sought political office.
A.R. oversaw operations at the post office with four years of experience under Joseph Fox Jr., he was known as an obliging and dedicated figure in the community, guiding the post office through a period of stability and growth. Under his leadership, the Oregon Post Office became more than a mail facility, it was a visible, permanent anchor of village life, connecting residents to each other and to the wider world.
