Born Ashtabula County, Ohio, son of Gardiner and Fanny Rice. In 1848 his parents came to Oregon, Wisconsin.Age 22, single, a farmer. Enlisted August 14th 1862 Oregon, Wisconsin by J. Bull for three years, mustered in August 30th 1862, Madison, Wisconsin.
Age 30, married, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’9″, a carpenter.
This pleasant little village of about 500 inhabitants is situated in the midst of a fertile agricultural region, in the southern part of the county, ten miles from the capital city, and is the second station on the Madison division of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
“The History of the Town of Oregon” and “The Village of Oregon” articles were in the The History of Dane County, Wisconsin written by C.W. Butterfield and published in Chicago in 1880. The Oregon Area Historical Society owns a copy of the book that can be viewed during museum hours
Eri P. Danks, farmer, Sec. 1; P.O. Stoughton; a native of Vermont; was born in Addison Co. in February, 1824; he is the son of Oratio Danks, a native of Massachusetts, and Ruby Hall, a native of Vermont; before Eri was a year old, his parents removed to Portage Co.,
